Tajudeen Baruwa, a claimant to the National President position of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has strongly condemned the recent inauguration of Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo) as the union’s President. In a statement issued by Baruwa’s lawyer, Tolu Babaleye, Baruwa argues that the inauguration of MC Oluomo was in defiance of multiple court rulings, including judgments by both the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal, which upheld Baruwa’s leadership.
Baruwa asserts that his election as president was in accordance with the NURTW’s constitution and that any factional decisions, including the formation of a caretaker committee, were illegal. Despite these rulings, MC Oluomo’s swearing-in was carried out, reportedly without respect for the constitution of the union or the court’s authority.
Baruwa’s legal team emphasized that the Court of Appeal, in its ruling on November 8, 2024, dismissed the appeal by the faction led by former NURTW president, Alh. Najeem Usman Yasin, thus reaffirming Baruwa’s status as the legitimate president. Baruwa’s representatives have called for all media outlets to disregard MC Oluomo’s inauguration and continue to recognize Baruwa as the lawful president of the union, urging the Attorney General of the Federation to intervene and uphold the judicial decisions.
